Your True Personal Power Within

The magnitude of the power within you is IMMENSE! I’m sure you, just like me had NO IDEA what that even meant.

It was something I had a sense of, but I could never put my finger on it or even comprehend what that was. All I knew, was what I knew and I most certainly was not taught it anywhere.

It wasn’t until a I took a journey within to fully understand myself, which then led me to further study and training to understand the power of the mind. Then I blew my own mind…..

All of your power lies within your mind, in fact, the life outside of you is a projection of your mind, to be more specific, a projection of you current belief system. So we created our current reality in our mind first before it was project out onto the screen. Some, obviously to our taste, and some not to our taste. This is happening at an unconscious level of our mind, until we make it conscious, which is where we have our super power of choice. It is the very reason why I LOVE NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) so much, it seeks to make the unconscious conscious and is very outcome orientated.

This can either be scary or empowering, I choose empowering, because you are in charge of changing that at ANY time – this is your power.

We live by two thought systems at any given moment in time (the work of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung), one keeps us out of our power and that is “the false self”, the other being our “true self”, keeps is in our authentic natural power.

The true self does not just know the following on an intellectual level, but it is a deep sense of self identity. The true self knows it is:

Credit: @vincentledvina
  • Worthy

  • Loveable

  • Deserving

  • Grateful

  • Authentic

  • Open to the flow of life

  • Comfortable with oneself

  • Not needing validation from the outside world

Imagine living your life with THIS knowing instead?

How different would your life be?

How would you show up on a day to day basis?

What would that look  like for you?

I would even encourage you right now to take a few minutes contemplating this, because THIS is the truth of you, it is not enough to just know it, you need to fully BELIEVE it in your mind.

Herein lies the problem, most at a conscious level will say, “Of course I believe I am worthy”, but it is not the conscious mind that hold’s our belief system, it is the subconscious mind (the part of the mind that is running everything)  and if it does not have that coded in a neural pathway, it is unlikely that you live in that knowing.

Examples of how the false self can show up?

  • Are you constantly worried about what other people think?

  • Do you flip between anxiety and depression?

  • Do you have trouble letting go of the past?

  • Do you take things personally and have a hard time managing your emotions

  • Do you self criticize?

  • Are you stuck in the same emotional patterns

  • Do you expect others to act in a certain way in order for you to feel worth?

Answering YES to any of the above will mean that you are living within the false self thought system.

Now, let’s look at the other spectrum, the more empowering thought system.

How do you know if you are in true power, your true identity?

Credit: Alisha Rosley

Credit: Alisha Rosley

  • You will be immune to criticism and open to feedback

  • You will have a sense of equality with others, you are not beneath nor superior to anyone

  • You are not afraid to speak your truth, even when it feels super uncomfortable and is not the popular narrative

  • You have a sense of knowing when to defer or when to assert yourself in situations

  • You do not need any outside validation from external circumstances

  • You do not have a desire for life to look a certain way in order for you to be in your truth

  • You have the utmost love and compassion for yourself and others, holding them in their true power

The power with you is huge, it is not something you need to fight or search for, it is within you NOW, you just don’t believe it to be true, so our role becomes removing the barriers, otherwise known as the self limiting beliefs to knowing that true self. It is yours to be reclaimed.

Are you ready to reclaim your power within?

If you are wanting to know your true self and experience living from the power within you, the check out the ways I can support you.

Educate and Inspire vs Diagnose and Treat - the role of coaching

In the conventional medical health model, it is typically all about prescribe and treat, otherwise known as let’s look at what is wrong with you and treat that in isolation. This does not leave the patient in a very empowered position.

Let’s be clear, modern medicine is nothing short of being genius when it comes to acute conditions and emergency situations, but does very little from a preventative approach.

So whilst medicine appears to be very physiological, the success rate is often determined by the psychological aspects. In the field of behavioural medicine , there is an understanding that nothing is physiological, but psycho-physiological instead. In simple terms this means that there is no separation between a persons mind and body. They work together and impact each other, therefore you cannot look at any symptom in isolation.

This is where wellness coaching becomes golden, it is focused to look at the person as a whole from a holistic approach to induce positive behaviour change to achieve a desired health outcome.

We are in an age where it is not enough to just know information, you need to act on it.

How do we make this action happen is the jackpot question?

According to Integrative and Functional Medicine, much if not most of health comes down to lifestyle behavioural change from a holistic point of view.

This is realms of health and wellness coaching, it is there to not only educate in a specialised area, but to also inspire and support the growth and development of the client. Coaching is seen to be standing by the client, with them and next to them, so eloquently explained by Michael Arloski as mountain guides. The mountain guides do not climb the mountain for people, but instead help them by:

@charlotemsk

@charlotemsk

  • Planning the climb

  • Assessing the physical and mental readiness to climb

  • Examining whether the climber is equipped with the right tools to climb

  • Together plan the best route

  • Does not force the climber to climb the mountain, the motivation to climb must come from the climber

  • At times when the climber is discouraged, the guides gently supports the climber to reach a little deeper and keep going

A health and wellness coach is like a good mountain guide that is providing you support and accountability.

Whilst it may seem like the ‘action’ that is needed is simple, yet you struggle to do what you know you should be and then you beat yourself up about it! You will be pleased to know that none of it is your fault, but has everything to do with how your mind is currently wired in terms your beliefs, thoughts and feelings which are informing your actions. Trying to make any sort of long term sustaining change is next to impossible without examining this aspect.

Join me inside the Empowered Mums Group where I dive into this much more along side the right actions to take at the root cause level.

The REAL truth about eating Wholefood

The HONEST Real truth about eating whole and real food

So this has been on mind lately regarding people's expectations about eating whole & real foods. This has led to me writing this blog to be brutally honest as to what it takes INITIALLY to begin this journey, not in the longer term.

You see, this is a way of life, essentially a new habit or a group of new habits that needs to be created and also follows the cycle of change.

Before I dive into the real truth, let me just clarify what a wholefood is, i.e. any food that is as close as possible to it’s natural state. By definition this rules out packaged and processed food.

The quickest way to identify how much wholefood you are actually consuming is to complete a food diary for 2-3 days. This way you can really get a true picture of how much “REAL” food is being consumed. You may actually surprise yourself.

I wanted to be upfront and say that eating a wholefood and real food diet is not easy initially,  however after time it just becomes a way of life. There are some bumps on the road until you can get into the groove. Over time you will find that it actually saves you time, creates so much more convenience and the cherry on the cake is how YOU will feel physically and emotionally. What I observe is that people try this “clean” eating for a week and give up after soon thereafter because it is all too hard.

I’ve identified 3 REAL truths that you just need to get comfortable and make peace with IF you want to achieve optimal health by consuming a wholefood diet the majority of the time. This is even more pertinent if it extends to healing wholefood.

THREE BIG TRUTHS

  1. TIME

Depending how far you away from the concept of real food you are, it takes time to FULLY implement. Allow yourself a good 3-6 months to make small incremental consistent nutritional improvements to your family’s diet. It takes TIME for them to come on board. It also takes time for you to figure out what your favourite wholefood “go to” meals are that the whole family enjoys and in fact get into your groove.

time.jpg

Tying in with the concept of time is "EFFORT”. Food does not magically land on the table at breakfast, lunch and dinner (as much as we’d like the food fairies to appear) and it takes effort accordingly. I hear so much that I just don’t have the time. I beg to differ, we all have the same number of hours in the day. It really does not take the amount of time we think it does.

2.  ORGANISATION

Sometimes it feels like the word organisation is a dirty word. The harsh reality is that it is very difficult to consume whole and real food EVERYDAY without being organised. By organised I am referring to meal planning and preparation consistently so that it just becomes another habit like brushing your teeth. It’s not something you think about or debate, you just do it…..I hope so anyway :-).

It does not stop at menu planning though, you then need to prepare the lovely meals you have planned. Set aside time in your diary to do some bulk food prep so that you can create convenience, make better food choices, be more present, calm and in flow.

planning.jpg

Tying in with the above truth of time, also give yourself time to get organised. Don’t come up with a bright idea on the weekend and decide you are changing the world on Monday. Instead allow yourself anything from 2-4 weeks to get yourself into gear and then make the changes.

3. Food wastage

Yes, initially there is plenty of food wastage whilst you adjust the family’s pallet as well as experimenting to identify the “new” family favourites. There will be some recipes that you make and the family will dislike, I like to think of this as feedback, instead giving you of an idea what their likes and dislikes are using real ingredients. Sometimes you do want to cry and just give up, but don’t, this is just a phase and it too shall pass. You just need to hang on and the food wastage will greatly decrease sooner than you think.

The truths above, are just part of the cycle of change. You first need to decide:

  • What you want to achieve & why - this step is so often over looked, however is the foundation for making any lasting sustainable change.

  • How are you going to get achieve this

  • Set yourself a timeframe to do so, such as 6 weeks, 3 or 6 months. This really takes the pressure off and you are less likely to give up after one week when everyone hates what you have cooked. This does happen I am afraid to say…..so get comfortable with that idea now…lol

If you feel you need some support to getting you started on first step into the world of whole and real food and a plan to really transform your health, then book in a 90 minute Nutrition & Wellness Audit

What does it mean to have a coach?

Coaching in all arenas of life is on the rise and I think it is a smart decision to invest in having a coach to achieve your desired goals. Knowing the information or what to do is ONLY 1 piece of the puzzle, but it's about taking consistent action with that knowledge.

This is where most people get stuck for a host of reasons, but mainly because:

  • Lack of clarity and purpose, i.e. the WHAT & WHY changes are needed

  • Lack of tailored plan, i.e. the exact steps to get you from A to B

  • Lack of accountability & support to keep you on track and course correct

The main aim of coaching is to:

coaching-.jpg
  • Help you generate self responsibility, i.e. accept that the hard work ahead is yours and that learning and creating new habits may need to happen in order to achieve their desired goal

  • Raise awareness of how life could be different IF you achieved your goal OR if everything stayed the same. The main aim is to help you dream and design your new life as if your goals have been achieved

  • Illicit positive behavioural change, however this change starts in your mind and is often the biggest hurdle to overcome. The coach is also there to help you become the person you need to be in order to achieve your goals, this follows the concept of BE DO HAVE, i.e. Be the person you need be NOW, Do what is needed to achieve and the HAVE your desire.

  • Empower and build confidence in you so that you can make the necessary changes without overwhelm

The elements of having a coach:

consulting.jpg
  1. The success of a partnership between me the coach and you the client is based on the relationship and rapport. In a coaching relationship, there is no hierarchy, we both operate from a level playing field

  2. The coach is there to provide structure to the conversation and provide a line of questioning that will help YOU identify the pathway forward. All the answers are within us, sometimes we just need some help sifting through all the noise in our head

  3. The coach is there to provide accountability for you. Quite often you already know what you need to do and don’t need to be told, but it is having someone to be accountable that helps you take that action needed.

  4. The coach is also there to provide a level of expertise in a chosen area of specialty. This is done in an empowering way and is not meant to be prescriptive. In my case, my chosen area of special interest is gut health and helping mum’s rock life without overwhelm given the stress of this modern day life.

  5. Lastly and most importantly, the coach is also there to support and guide you to achieve your goals using a structured approach.

All the above is quite general to coaching, so how does that relate to me as a Nutrition & Wellness coach? As I mentioned before, my area of special interest is gut health and helping mum’s become the captain of their ship using proven transformational wellness practices.

Obtaining transformational change is very difficult to do in 1 session, therefore I’ve designed 2 main 1:1 programs to achieve this:

  1. 6 week 1:1 Thriving Families – this purely focuses on Nutrition and aiding the switch to real wholefoods in small bite sized chunks.

  2. 12 week: Healing with wholefood – this program truly is my babe and focuses on change in the 4 core pillars of health, i.e. nutrition, gut microbiome, toxicity and emotional wellbeing. No stone is left unturned in this program.

The above 1:1 programs will be offered as a group in the 2nd part of the year and the investment will be much lower.

I also understand that sometimes, you need to dip your toe into the water before making that investment, so I also have a 90 Minute Nutrition & Wellness Audit. The purpose of this session is to:

  • Help you identify your what & why for health & wellness

  • Design a plan for you to create this so that you always know your next step

  • Perform an audit of your nutrition & wellness and provide recommendations and suggestions for improvement.

If you are feeling stuck on your journey and not sure of your next step, please reach out and schedule a complimentary 30 chat to see if any of my programs are a fit for you.
